About Us

Recreation Plus is a non-profit organization that provides low-to-no cost instruction to students of all ages. Our goal is to support learning and growth by providing an easily accessible structure through which schools, community centers, and Living Communities can offer productive educational and recreational enrichment options to various populations.

Why We Need After School Programs

  • The rate for juvenile crime peaks in the after-school hours. About 10 percent of violent juvenile crimes are committed between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Children are also at a much greater risk of being the victim of a violent crime (murder, a violent sex offense, robbery, or assault) after the school day, roughly 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Youth ages 10-16 who have a relationship with a mentor, an important component of a quality after-school program, are 46 percent less likely to start using drugs and 27 percent less likely to start drinking alcohol.
  • After school and in the evenings, children watch, on average, about 23 hours per week of television. Quality after-school programs offer children and youth enjoyable alternatives to television watching during the after-school hours in environments filled with opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Students who spent even one to four hours a week in extracurricular activities were 60 percent less likely to have dropped out of school by 12th grade than their peers who did not participate.
  • The structure of an after-school program can make homework part of students’ daily routine. This can contribute to children in after-school programs completing more and better-prepared homework because of their participation.
  • Research shows that children who participate in after-school programs behave better in class, handle conflict more effectively, and cooperate more with authority figures and with their peers.
  • Research shows that children with the opportunity to make social connections in after-school hours are better adjusted and happier than those who do not have this opportunity.
  • After-school programs can help school districts save money over the long term because of decreased student retention and special education placements. Where there is a decrease in juvenile crime due to a program, communities also save resources.
  • Educators can expect that when family and community members make an investment in an after-school program, they will be more interested and involved in their own children’s learning, in the learning of all children in the program, and in the life of the school as a whole.

The MusIQ Club Mission

We help children learn the language of music and develop skills and interest that will keep them enjoying and creating music for the rest of their lives. It’s easy for children to miss the chance to develop musically in today’s world. Parents are busy, finances are tight. There are so many distractions. But a quality music education remains one of the most profound gifts. It introduces exciting possibilities, deepens life experiences, challenges our children and provides successes, improves their cognitive development and their relationships, and ultimately improves their quality of life.

Why MusIQ Club?

MusIQ Club is a great way for today’s parents to ensure their children receive all the benefits of a challenging instrumental music program while enjoying several advantages over traditional approaches. MusIQ Club classes travel to where students already are, and that convenience means more families can participate and class time can be shared with friends. MusIQ Club classes are led by qualified music specialists and facilitated by award-winning music education technology. Teachers focus on the balanced development of musical talent, combining age and skill- appropriate activities in an ideal way.

MusIQ Club develops a student’s skills in reading the whole language of music, performing on the piano keyboard, improvising and composing, steadily advancing them from a novice to an advanced intermediate level. Students develop fluent reading ability and leadership skills while performing with and for their classmates and teachers. These 1 hour classes also include music history, theory, games and much more...

Each MusIQ Club registration fee includes our full suite of award-winning Adventus software for practice at home. This software makes it easy for students to engage daily with their musical instrument and it ensures a productive practice. Our interactive software feels more like a game than traditional practice, avoiding the frustration that comes from not being sure how to improve. Parents won’t experience the traditional struggle to keep practice going.

In addition to the aesthetic benefits of music, studies over the past 20 years have proven that children who participate in a challenging instrumental music program experience improved rates of learning in math, reading & science, improved attitudes towards learning, better behavior in school, and increased self-discipline and self-confidence. MusIQ Club makes all of these benefits much more accessible.

What kind of Music is Included?

There is a wide variety of music repertoire in the MusIQ Club classes, arranged at several different levels of difficulty. It’s important to offer different styles of music to students with different interests, it takes time to master each piece and that process is more interesting with music that strikes the right chord. The Adventus interactive software contains 1000 arrangements in several genres, from Beethoven to Pop/Rock. This extensive library means you won’t need to purchase additional books.
